The categories represent four broad areas of knowledge and skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. These four categories are interrelated, reflecting the wholeness and interconnectedness of learning to be proficient in any language, including English. We shall focus not only on students’ acquisition of knowledge of Canadian culture, history, and traditions; but also on their development of the skills of thinking, communication, and application.
