Why do I do this?

For more than five decades, my professional identity was shaped by my successes and occasional failures as a secondary school teacher of English, Drama, Media Arts, and the Writer’s Craft. I am proud and - a touch embarrassed - to admit that I once pioneered the much-maligned art of online education on behalf of the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board. Today, I am grateful for the digital experience that now helps shape the structure and the style of this website for my current career as a volunteer ESL educator ... and of course, as a facilitator of Our Conversation Circle at the Stoney Creek library on Sunningdale. You are likely wondering why I continue to teach if I have officially retired from that profession. I once read that, “English teachers never retire—they just lose their voices correcting grammar.”
